House Of Wax (1953) (David Buttolph)

Here is David Buttolph's score to the Vincent Price 3-D spectacular, House of Wax. Not to be confused with the Paris Hilton remake which might be scary for totally different reasons. I threw in the German poster (well, really DVD cover) for no particular reason. And doesn't that bottom picture on the left look a little like George Hamilton?

This is a DVD rip that includes dialogue and sound effects, so it's an extra special treat for spooky Halloween mind-fun! And I always like to imagine the paddle ball man trying to scare people who are wearing 3-D glasses. You haven't been scared until you almost get hit in the face with a paddle ball (though it's a great effect!)

Well, it seems to me that this was the movie that set Vincent Price off into the fun land of horror films. He had done Gothic type movies before and villainous roles as well, but it was the success of this role that catapulted him in a whole new direction. And though I loved him in horror films, I sometimes wish they would've offered him a few more non-horror things later in his career just because he was so good in all sorts of films.

My nominations that nobody else cares about: My favorite horror role of his: maybe The Abominable Dr. Phibes. Favorite horror movie of his: probably Theatre of Blood or one of the Poe movies. Favorite comic role & movie of his: Champagne For Caesar. Favorite dramatic role: maybe His Kind of Woman or The Tower of London. Favorite dramatic movie of his: Laura or The Ten Commandments. Honorable mentions: Abbott & Costello Meet Frankenstein, The Invisible Man Returns, Casanova's Big Night, House on Haunted Hill, The Tingler, Edward Scissorhands, The Last Man on Earth, The Three Musketeers, The Private Lives of Elizabeth and Essex, and The Song of Bernadette.

What are your nominations?

Well, enjoy this DVD rip (not mine, by the way....with, it strikes me, arbitrary track titles) of 21 tracks of 1 hour and 34 seconds of movie magic!

I put the link (or at least a link to a link) in the Requests post. Or you can just go to Manchester Morgue's blog. Either way. :))
