By Request - Hamlet (1990) (Ennio Morricone)

'Werther' made this request and I'm only too happy to oblige. This is the version starring everybody's favorite anti-Semite, Mel Gibson. He may or may not have been an anti-Semite when he made this movie. Perhaps he should've done The Merchant of Venice instead.

And despite the way it sounds, I really like Mel Gibson (though I could really do without the race hatred and sexism). I'm sure when everybody gets drunk they automatically say things they'd never thought of before or heard in their entire lifetimes. Actually, my hope is that one day someone will get drunk and spontaneously create a perpetual motion machine, solve the problem of cold fusion, or invent a replacement for Esperanto.

Hey, now that I think about it, if Mel Gibson is right and you really do say things when you're drunk that aren't in your heart, does that mean that when Osama Bin Laden gets drunk, he starts talking about how much he loves the Jews? Hmmm, interesting. Of course, if I saw Osama Bin Laden drunk, there would probably be other things I'd want to do besides listening to him talk, but that's just me.

'Who would fardels bear to grunt and sweat under a weary female police officer but that the dread of something after rehab, the undiscovered country from whose bourn no traveller returns, puzzles the will and makes us rather bear those interviews with Diane Sawyer than fly to others that we know not of.'

Well, despite what you might think of Mel Gibson, I thought he gave a spirited performance as Hamlet. And considering that your mother, Glenn Close, was only a few years older than you, you did a fine job not letting that mess with your head. If Glenn Close was my mother, there would certainly be some Oedipal issues going on.

Boy, this post has taken some disturbing turns. Well, what's not disturbing is Ennio Morricone's music. Unless you're in a spaghetti Western and you're about to be killed by Clint Eastwood or Lee Van Cleef.

Well, Werther, sorry this is the only one of the scores you requested that I had that wasn't in storage, but I hope you (and everybody else) enjoys this score!

P.S. Does the ghost and all the dead people in the movie qualify this as a Halloween post? Well, more people probably died in this movie than in say, Dracula or Frankenstein!
