For lovers of crime jazz, here's a real treat. The music (composed & conducted by Pete Rugolo) from the TV show, Richard Diamond, Private Detective. The show starred David Janssen and Regis Toomey. The show was in that vein of private detective TV shows with jazzy scores like Peter Gunn, though this show actually came before Peter Gunn. It's also notable for featuring Mary Tyler Moore, in one of her first TV roles, as the character of 'Sam' - an answering service operator. What made the character unusual was that her body was mostly in shadow and you only saw her legs and heard her sultry voice.

Incredibly, the password thing is still not working w/ StuffIt (I've tested the old Mac Classic version) and other Mac-based expanders (it does work with UnZip, but the resulting MP3s are full of pops and distortions). So the problem wasn't in the 'underscores' after all: for some reason the only software that de-compresses your uploads allright is WinRar - never seen such an anti-Mac bias...

I'm listening to this record right now (Ye Olde Curiosity Shape), and I just drop in to tell you this a wonderful record, right up my alley, "Tout droit dans mon allée", in French, which sounds just plain stupid in Frogland). ReplyDeleteI really appreciate you letting me know. It pains me to think that some people using Mac are having problems with the files. It does sound like in the instance you describe that it's some combination of non-WinRar software & using a Mac that seems to be the problem.
I don't know what to do about that. I'm reluctant to use other software besides WinRar since it's easiest & most reliable for me to use. I don't know if I'd just have the same problem with non-Stuffit users if I switched to that, for example.
Well, at least it doesn't seem to be the password that's causing the problem. Still, it really bothers me that people are having problems. I never hear these issues at other blogs. Maybe none of the other bloggers use WinRar. I don't know.
Well, again if anybody is having problems with the files, please let me know.

Always great to hear from you! I think 'anonymous' was complaining more about the anti-Mac bias of rar's in general (or maybe WinRar, specifically) and less about me (I hope).
Thanks for the compliments on the Rugolo album. I love it too. I wasn't sure if I should post it because I figured a lot of people already had it (or somebody else had posted it), but a lot of people seem to be downloading it faster than some of the other albums.
And I'll try to never stop and er- never stop (...I'm working on my perpetual motion machine right now!)

ReplyDeleteHello. I just found some Richard Diamond shows on YouTube. After that I looked up Pete on IMDb and was sorry to see he died in October, he and my dad were great friends. The other thing is, he is not credited for Richard Diamond there! In the second season it was called "Call Mr D", was 1/2 hour, and other than the theme had standard boring 50's TV music and no Mary Tyler Moore. Did he take over the rest of the music for the show in a later season, and can you get the facts over to IMDb so he can get proper credit? Not knowing the details I don't think they would pay any attention to me.
