You're On Dangerous Ground if you have an Obsession with Sam Butera

I uploaded these with Lazar at Lazar's Corner of Lounge Music in mind since he had posted some Bernard Herrmann at his blog and thought he might enjoy these as well if he didn't already have them. Also, I noticed that he didn't have this other entry listed in his U-Lounge series list, so I thought he and others might also enjoy this addition. 'On Dangerous Ground' was a 1952 (or 1951 depending on which source you consult) film starring Robert Ryan & Ida Lupino with a score by Bernard Herrmann. It's about an urban police detective who's become a little world-weary and violent (in fact, he beats a man until he ruptures the man's bladder) so he's sent out of town by his superior to investigate a murder in the country. There he meets a blind woman played by Ida Lupino and learns some lessons about himself. I fell in love with the track, 'The Death Hunt' (I think it was the Charles Gerhardt version) long before I ever heard the full score, and so it always made me want to hear the rest of it.

'Obsession' is the 1976 film starring Cliff Robertson, Genevieve Bujold, & John Lithgow with a score by Bernard Herrmann. My shorthand way of thinking of this film is that it's Brian De Palma's homage/ripoff of 'Vertigo' (just like I think of his 'Dressed to Kill' or 'Sisters' as his version of 'Psycho' or his 'Body Double' or 'Blow-Out' as his version of 'Rear Window'....and the list goes on).

And I mainly think of Sam Butera as the leader of the back-up band for Louis Prima, but he had a career all his own, so it's nice to hear this one. Some great cuts on this one.
