And here's Bernard Herrmann's score to the simple story of a boy and his mother, just in time for Halloween. This is the Unicorn-Kanchana version. Now, in whatever context, Bernard Herrmann's music is uniformly excellent, but there's nothing that quite compares to Bernard Herrmann conducting his own music. Other conductors do it well, but are never really as satisfying as BH himself.I don't know exactly what he did or how he did it (I suspect it might have something to do with him being a tough taskmaster), but his self-conducted performances always had an extra dimension to them that I've never heard other conductors achieve. But then again, what do I know? I just know what I like, and boy do I like Bernard Herrmann! Here, he's conducting the National Philharmonic Orch. with the 'Complete Music For Alfred Hitchcock's Classic Suspense Thriller'.
The excellent Lazar's Corner of Lounge Music a while back also shared the score to Psycho, but that was the Soundstage Records version. (Go there and get that one too!) That's probably why I haven't posted this one until now, but I figured since this was a different version with different sound and it's Halloween, I'd go ahead anyway. Also, some time ago, the also excellent 7 Black Notes shared Psycho III, so get that one too while you're at it. Make sure to get all the Psycho's you possibly can! Enjoy!
