Black Sunday (1961); Baron Blood (1972) (Les Baxter)

Since Halloween is coming up I would normally have tried to come up with something more elaborate to celebrate, but it's really just easier for me to post soundtracks. Besides, everything else besides compilations would most likely be shared somewhere else anyway. And I didn't really have time, but I thought people might like some more Oktoberfest music anyway (can't have too much of that!), so I thought I'd do it through the next several posts.

Here are the scores to the Mario Bava witchy movie, 'Black Sunday' (also known as 'Mask of the Demon') and the Mario Bava non-witchy movie, 'Baron Blood'. It's been a long time since I've seen these movies, but if memory serves, Black Sunday was much better than Baron Blood (though it would be interesting to see what would happen in a 2 out of 3 grudge match). Also, if I remember right, when they showed these in America, they had Les Baxter do the scores. It seems to me Stelvio Cipriani did the original score for Baron Blood and I can't remember who did it for Black Sunday.

This 'Black Sunday' is not to be confused with the Robert Shaw movie of the same name in which he and Bruce Dern coincidentally play witches who like to watch blimps explode. John Williams did the score to that picture (and when they showed it in America, they also had Les Baxter re-do the score). This exploding blimp movie is not to be confused with 'The Hindenburg' starring George C. Scott with music by David Shire (with re-scoring done by Esquivel). George C. Scott also played a witch in that movie.

Well, if a tied-up Barbara Steele isn't enough incentive to download this music, I don't know what is. Enjoy!
