Tico To Tico: Ticotastic! (You Don't Have To Visit This Bachelor's Pad)

All the compilations I've put on the blog so far have been either ones I made up a long time ago or ones I started but didn't finalize until recently. They've all been for my own personal pleasure (and the odd friend who got foisted with a copy), but this is the first compilation I've ever made specifically with the blog in mind. I made it up in a slightly different way than I usually do (I'll spare you the details). I felt bad that I wasn't offering a lot that people who were being referred from great lounge (& more) sites like Planet Xtabay, Sounds of Champaign, and Licorice Pizza who had linked to me would be interested in, so here is a meager offering.

I'm terrible at categorizing and describing music (as you may have noticed); unless it's a very obvious category like country or classical for instance, I tend to think of music in two basic categories: music I like and music I'm less interested in. I just know what I like, but I'm terrible at figuring out what type of music it is. So when it came time to name this compilation, I realized I had no clue as to what to call it. I included tracks with a certain sound or rhythm and ones that I liked that flowed well together, but I still had no idea what to name it.

So I asked for your suggestions on what to name it and you really came through. Thanks!!

This was a pretty quick and dirty compilation and I didn't really put a lot of thought into it, but I still think it turned out nicely (though lovers of lounge and spage age pop will notice a lot of the usual suspects here as far as albums go). So enjoy!

Update: My copy of the Three Suns album, "Movin' 'n' Groovin'" had a slight skip on the 'Caravan' track; when I made up the compilation, I only noticed it after it was done. I wanted to put the comp up, so I let it slide, but that slight skip always bothered me, so I downloaded Planet Xtabay's copy of the original album so I could replace the track. I've uploaded that track so if you want to, you can just replace Track #18 in the comp. Also, if you want the whole album, please go to the excellent Planet Xtabay and get a copy. I think Rockovergraceland has a copy as well (in fact, I just checked and he does have one here), so see how many different copies of the same album you can get! Make a game of it and keep score. That's what I do for fun. You can never have too much Three Suns!

Yet another update: Thank you so much for the help on the name! I liked all your suggestions (I didn't think I'd like ALL of them, but I actually did!). I loved 'Tico To Tico' by Loungetracks (I didn't even know he was stopping by!....another blog that I'm a big fan of, so I got a kick out of seeing your name up there!).

I also loved 'Ticotastic!' by Rangeraver (thanks so much for the kind words.....I don't know if I have a volume 2 in me, but I really appreciated hearing your kind feedback!!....you were in that batch of links I was going to put on my list next and before I could, you left that great comment, so thanks so much and thanks for your linking to me!). Anybody else reading this should go over to his blog for so much great material.

I love the hot-cold sound of the name, 'Pacemaker Blues' by Gonzalez On Speed. It has this wonderful abstractness to it. The only thing I'm not sure about is whether it means you need a pacemaker after you've listened to the compilation or whether you have to be old enough to need a pacemaker in order to listen to it, but I still love the sound of it.

And I love the straightforwardness of 'The Easy Lounge' by Mickey and 'The Un-Commercial Compilation' by anonymous. It reminds me of a time, way back in high school, when I turned in an essay titled, 'Untitled Essay' to my English teacher. He wasn't too amused, but I thought it was a great title!

And Mickey came up with so many other great suggestions. I especially liked 'You Don't Have To Visit This Bachelor's Pad'.

Okay, call me a wuss, but I liked three of them so much, that I've decided to call the compilation, 'Tico To Tico: Ticotastic! (You Don't Have To Visit This Bachelor's Pad)'. If that's too long for you, you can just call it, 'TTT: T! (YDHTVTBP)' (which also doubles as an eye chart at your next optometrist exam). I was originally going to call it 'Tico To Tico: Ticotastic!', but Mickey came up with that great title as I was deciding and I just had to call it that!!

I once make an easy and lounge comp which I titled "The Easy Lounge". Nothing can beat such an unoriginal title, I think. Great comp, btw. Love your site.

the un-commercial compil...?

Take It Easy? Lounging There Trying (one of my favourite tunes by Hatfield and The North)? Bachelor's Lounge? Tico's Lounge? Space Pad Lounge? You Don't Have To Visit This Bachelor's Pad?

I'm running dry by now ;-))

Lounge Me, Baby!

Thanks for a wonderful compilation; it's been on my car stereo non-stop!

Everybody, thanks so much for all the help! Look at the post for the responses. (And Mickey, let me know if you ever have that easy and lounge comp that you made up available. I'd love to hear it (or you can upload it and put the link up here, if you want)).

(P.S. And just as I was about to post this comment, 78RPM left that nice comment.....thanks so much for the kind words....I get a real kick out of knowing somebody's listening to it on their car stereo!.....let alone, non-stop!!)

Hello! I'm glad you kept one of my titles! I can't find this ù*$@ç Easy Lounge compilation. Must be hiding somewhere in the middle of a CD-R stack!! Instead, her's links to another home-made comp, entitled Ciné Pop (composed of upbeat/pop tracks taken from (mostly French) movies. I hope you'll enjoy it (I love track 5, personally).

Great comp! With the computer crashing last week I have been in a feeding frenzy catching up on the latest posts. This one is so good.

I have posted a reply to your request for the thought process at A Taste of Vinyl - Roots of R n R. Where you left the original message.

But like I need to tell you how to come up with a great comp!

Timbo

Hey! I found my Easy Lounge comps (4 of them). If you're still interested, let me know and I'll post them as soon as I come back from a short break in the country next week. (Martin Denny, Bill May, Dean Martind, Syd Dale, Henry Mancini, Esquivel, Arthur Lyman et al, all packed into nice 80-minute comps). A word of warning: no track lists, because I'm such a lazy boy...

Hope you'll enjoy the Ciné Pop one in the meantime... See ya

Hi Onzichtbaredj!

Thanks for what you said about the compilation! And on your first post about The Supreme Lounge Vols. 2 & 3, at first I thought you were talking about my compilation being on those CD's until I realized you were talking about Mickey's Cine Pop comp. :))

You had me worried that I had duplicated a commercial comp until I looked up Supreme Lounge and realized it was a compilation of French film music!! :))

================

Speaking of which, I just downloaded the Cine Pop comp, Mickey, and am looking forward to listening to it! Thanks for taking the time to upload it and making it available. Please feel free to give us the links to the Easy Lounge comps too when you get back. I'd love to hear them (even without the track lists!).

====================

And a big Hi! to Timbo. I'm glad you got your computer fixed. I know that whole feeding frenzy feeling trying to catch up on the downloads (except it seems to happen to me all the time even without a computer crash!)

Thanks for the nice words about the compilation! Coming from a 'master of the mix', that's a real compliment.

Thanks for posting this. I was looking all over for the song "Di-Gue-Ding-Ding"! Oh and Burt Bacharach is always fantastic!
Cheers,
Jamie

Wow. Just found this and ..WOW.. Nice work. This is a great compilation. I feel like I am back in the late 60 at the Crown Club near the old Manned Spacecraft Center. ...little glass beads hanging from around the can lights in the ceiling. ...chicks with big hair and short dresses.

Really liked the track from Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid!

Nice work!

Even in the most sexually liberated and self-satisfied of nations, many people still yearn to burn more, to feel ready for bedding no matter what the clock says and to desire their partner of 23 years as much as they did when their love was brand new.
The market is saturated with books on how to revive a flagging libido or spice up monotonous sex, and sex therapists say “lack of desire” is one of the most common complaints they hear from patients, particularly women.

It will not succeed as a matter of fact, that is what I consider.
